What Public Holidays Do We Have in 2025?

Public holidays help us enjoy more time to relax, spend with family, and dedicate ourselves to personal passions.

It's important to check at the beginning of the year to see what public holidays will be in 2025 and how many working days there will be in total.

That's why we've prepared the calendar of legal public holidays for this year, so you can plan your vacation and mini getaways, especially when holidays fall on Mondays or Fridays.

In 2025, employees in the Republic of Moldova will have 13 legal public holidays. Out of these, 9 holidays fall on weekdays and 4 on the weekend.

According to the legislation, the legal holidays in Moldova for 2025 when employees do not work are as follows:

Public holidays Republica Moldova 2025

January 1 (Wednesday) – New Year's Day

January 7 and 8 (Tuesday and Wednesday) – Old Style Christmas

March 8 (Saturday) – International Women's Day

April 20 and 21 (Sunday and Monday) – Easter

April 28 (Monday) – Easter of the Dead

May 1 (Thursday) – Labor Day

May 9 (Friday) – Victory Day

June 1 (Sunday) – Children's Day

August 27 (Wednesday) – Independence Day of the Republic of Moldova

August 31 (Sunday) – Romanian Language Day

December 25 (Thursday) – Christmas

In addition to the days off provided for in the Labor Code, the holiday calendar also includes hram days, which become non-working for employees in the respective localities. Thus, Chișinău marks its Hram on October 14, Cahul on November 21, Bălți on May 22, and Comrat on August 20.

Employees who work on non-working holiday days receive double pay, regardless of their method of remuneration (hourly, daily, or monthly salary). However, in certain situations, the employer may offer a compensatory day off without additional pay.

Employees under 18, pregnant women, people with severe disabilities, and parents with small or disabled children cannot be forced to work on holidays without their written consent. Moreover, employees who are on leave or have their employment contract suspended on the holiday are not obliged to make up those days.

7 Tips on How to Make the Most of Public Holidays 2025 in Republic of Moldova

1. Plan Your Legal Days Off Early

At the beginning of the year, check the calendar of Legal holidays 2025 to identify how to best combine weekends with official breaks. This foresight will allow you to make the most of extended weekends and ensure a smooth vacation schedule.

2. Use Bridge Days Strategically

Especially when public holidays fall on a Tuesday or Thursday, consider taking a bridge day—Monday or Friday—to extend your time off. These smart combinations can turn a regular weekend into a longer and more relaxing getaway, giving you the chance to recharge without using too many vacation days. Before setting your schedule, review all the legal holidays in Moldova to plan efficiently.

3. Book Transportation and Accommodation in Advance

Besides official public holidays, Moldova also celebrates local hram days, which can be just as important and busy. Whether you plan a countryside escape or a city visit, book your transportation and accommodation in advance. Popular spots can fill up quickly around these dates, so planning ahead ensures you get better prices, more availability, and a smoother experience overall.

4. Explore Moldova’s Cultural  Celebrations

Public holidays in the Republic of Moldova often align with important national and cultural events—such as Independence Day (August 27) or Language Day (August 31). Use these opportunities to reconnect with Moldovan traditions, visit local events, or participate in community festivals that bring history and culture to life.

5. Discover Lesser-Known Regions

Instead of heading to the same popular destinations, take advantage of Moldova’s public holidays in 2025 to explore lesser-known regions. From Orheiul Vechi to the villages of Gagauzia, the country is full of authentic experiences, rich folklore, and breathtaking natural beauty waiting to be discovered.

6. Enjoy Staycations

Not every holiday requires long-distance travel. If you prefer a quieter break, dedicate your Legal days off to pursuing personal interests at home—catch up on reading, try new recipes, or focus on a creative project you’ve been postponing.

7. Stay Flexible and Updated

Before making plans, check for any recent updates to Moldova’s legislation regarding public holidays in 2025. Staying informed about your rights ensures you can fully benefit from your time off—professionally and personally.

By following these tips, you’ll be able to balance rest, leisure, and even cultural exploration throughout the year. Take advantage of every opportunity to relax, recharge, and discover the best of Moldova in 2025.

How to Use the Legal Holidays 2025 Vacation to Build Your Employee Brand

Building a strong employee brand involves showcasing your skills, values, and dedication to professional growth. Instead of just relaxing during your Public holidays 2025, consider turning some of these Legal days off into opportunities to enhance your visibility in the workplace and beyond.

1. Upskill or Reskill

Dedicate part of your Legal holidays 2025 to improving your expertise. Whether it’s an online course, a local workshop, or learning a new tool that’s relevant to your field, these added qualifications will strengthen your personal and professional profile.

2. Network Strategically

Use your free time during Public holidays in Republic of Moldova 2025 to connect with industry peers—either in person or online. Engage in discussion forums, attend local meetups, or set up coffee chats with colleagues. Building these connections can pay off in future collaborations or career moves.

3. Polish Your Online Presence

Take advantage of quieter moments to update your LinkedIn profile, personal website, or digital portfolio. Highlight recent projects, achievements, and endorsements so potential employers or clients can clearly see your dedication and capabilities.

4. Share Your Progress

By transforming some of your Legal days off into opportunities for professional growth, you’ll elevate your employee brand and stay competitive in today’s evolving labor market. When used wisely, these breaks can be stepping stones to greater career success.

In conclusion, these days, along with vacation time, help you recharge. In today's fast-paced life, these breaks are essential for maintaining high productivity and long-term satisfaction. So, don't forget to organize your free time in 2025 to take advantage of every opportunity to reconnect.
